Jewels in progress – Indulging in new techniques

Since I attended Ruth Ball’s Masterclasses in Enameling I am working on a new collection of work that will utilize enameling techniques such as mark making, contemporary cloisonne and surface finishes.

Within my work I always reference a Surface Pattern element as a starting point. In the case of this collection I am looking at graphic patterns with structure – uniform in quality with subtle shifts and changes. These can be seen optically within the pattern structure and as my pieces develop into jewellery these shifts and changes can be seen within material process and then into 3D form.

To illustrate here is one of my artwork pattern tiles:

I abstract from this and translate into metal pieces/elements.

These will form objects to enamel, manipulate and experiment with.

I am in the process of preparing these pieces ready to add color!

Watch this space!! More developments coming soon.
